Uglies, Pretties, Specials and Extras.

Better known as the Uglies trilogy. It has another fourth book that is sort of an epilogue book for the trilogy, Extra. These books are in the Young Adult category but the theme is relatively suitable for all ages. The author is Scott Westerfield, I haven't Google if he has written any other books.

In my humble opinion it was a good book which made me think of some issues we have in the world today. Looks, race, environment, and social status. What if everyone was Pretty? But the down side of being Pretty, you'd also be a bubblehead. At 16, you will get an operation that will make you Pretty, or least pretty in the sense that has been implanted in you ever since you're a baby (everyone will look more or less the same). So before that, you are an Uglie.

The thing is when you're Pretty, there's going to be a lesion on you brain that would suppress your ability to feel real anger, unhappiness, creativity and the desire to be different. The pro would be having a really peaceful place to live in and the con is you're actually puppets to a higher council. You don't really know you can't feel or think differently unless you're like Tally Youngblood, the main character, who I think has a strong subconscious or will to change.

Setting for the books is like 300 years in the future, where technology is so advance. It's kind of cool that you can just order your closet to make any kind of clothes you want.

The books has been around for years, the fourth published in 2007 but I've only known about them a few months back when I downloaded them on my e-book reader. And I just checked out that they're going to make a movie from this book, but of course when is still unconfirmed. Just the rights has been bought. *cross fingers* But then again, don't hold you breath because I have been waiting for Scarpetta movie since learning that Angelina Jolie has agreed to the part...and yet it's still not in production..oh well..

Anyway, it was a great read, because I was left wanting more after the last book. I will definitely reread them some other time.
